Information on Visa and Travel
In general, travellers who wish to enter Japan are required to obtain a visa from the Embassy or Consulate General of Japan. To apply for a visa, a foreigner must possess a passport or travel document which will remain valid during the period of stay. In addition, travellers have to obtain a visa in advance to enter Japan. The applicant will be issued with a type of visa in accordance to his or her purpose of visit. Information on COVID-19 Travel Measures
To prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Japan, border enforcement measures have been implemented by the Government of Japan:
- Permitted entry of foreign nationals
Foreign nationals from a specified number of countries are denied permission to enter Japan for the time being unless there are exceptional circumstances.

- Permitted re-entry of foreign nationals with status of residence
The re-entry into Japan of foreign nationals with status of residence who have stayed in certain countries/regions designated in response to coronavirus variants of special concern on border measures within 14 days prior to the application for landing will be denied for the time being unless there are special exceptional circumstances.

- Quarantine measures
The current quarantine measures are strengthened and will remain in place until further notice.

- Suspension of visa exemption measures
Visa exemption measures with a specified list of countries and regions are temporarily suspended. Those who fall under this specified list are required to obtain visas before visiting Japan.
